Blaine first noticed it during the summer before Kurt’s senior year.
After they had said I love you, Blaine couldn’t stop doing it over and over again.
Whispering it into Kurt’s ear while they rested outside at night when the heat got to be too much. Mumbling it into Kurt’s shoulder when they watched a movie wrapped around each other in a single arm chair. Kissing it into the back of Kurt’s neck after they turned the corner of a crowded aisle at the grocery store they would go to to get ice cream.
For months he had known he wanted to say it, for weeks he had planned how and for moments he would give all that up to just say it. It was so clear in his head and his heart that he loved Kurt so when, during that day on the first week of summer, he thought it in his mind, he decided to simply say it out loud.
Kurt had said it back and the sweetness and spontaneity of the moment had been so perfect that Blaine could never regret doing it with out preemptive planning.
So, over the summer he said it all the time, finally voicing what had been repeating like a mantra in his head and it felt amazing.
But Kurt never said it back.
